My Friend Fela  / Meu amigo Fela

Joel Zito Araújo

My Friend Fela provides a new perspective on the acclaimed Nigerian musician Fela Kuti. As the documentary unfolds, it reveals the many influences and forces that shaped Fela's extraordinary life: from the relationship he had with his mother to his many and problematic relationships with women,  to his mutually influential encounters with seminal African-American figures. The resulting film is both a portrait of a remarkable man and a tribute to the Pan-African generation.
